Overview

The SMEs Knowledge Network Center engages in activities for building mutual cooperation and complementary relationships by promoting collaboration between areas in the East Asian Rim and industrial clusters in Niigata Prefecture. Toward this end, the center engages in the three specific activities described below.

1. Operation of the Knowledge Network Portal Site

  1. The “Asian SMEs Review (ASMER)” section introduces research and advanced case studies of SMEs within Niigata Prefecture and the East Asian Rim.
  2. The section “Industries/Firms” disseminates information promoting the attractiveness and strengths of industries and SMEs within Niigata Prefecture and the East Asian Rim.
  3. The “Entrepreneurship” section introduces examples of student entrepreneurship and case studies of startups discovered in various countries.

2. Building partnerships between SMEs in the East Asian Rim

Universities participating in the SMEs Knowledge Network in Japan, Taiwan and Korea alternately hold symposiums to explore ways of building cooperative relationships and supporting new business creation between companies in other countries and companies in Niigata through collaboration with industry, academia, government and financial institutions and consultants.

3. Building connections between students and local industries through industry-academia collaboration

From the viewpoint of students, graduate students and teaching staff respectively, the center provides a venue for promoting the strengths of various regions in Japan and abroad and at the same time opportunities for encouraging the autonomous, voluntary study of students and expanding their field of vision in career choices.
