Professor Fuyuki Ebata Delivers a Lecture on Northern Language Studies at the 40th International Abashiri Symposium

Professor Fuyuki Ebata delivered a lecture entitled “A Century of Northern Language Studies: Description, Typology, and Genealogy” at the 40th International Abashiri Symposium [The 40th Anniversary Meeting] Studies on Northern Cultures in the Anthropocene —From the Perspectives of Environment, Prehistory, and Contemporary Society—, held in Abashiri, Hokkaido, on October 17 and 18, 2026. The lecture reviewed the extensive body of research accumulated over the past century of Northern language studies and examined three approaches to reconstructing the past using language itself as a source of evidence.
